Denver Water Issues new water restrictions for 2026

Not to be dramatic but we are in trying, desperate times. The Denver Board of Water Commissioners declares Stage 1 drought and implements mandatory watering restrictions to achieve a 20% reduction in water use. Denver Water continues to stress keeping automatic sprinkler systems off until mid- to late-May.

There are many things you can do to save water, and prepare your Denver area yard and garden for what some say will be more like Texas by the year 2080.

Anticipated March 25 Stage 1 Drought Rules:
  • Water during cooler times of the day — lawn watering is NOT allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Watering more than two days is not allowed.
  • Do not allow water to pool in gutters, streets and alleys.
  • Do not waste water by letting it spray on concrete and asphalt.
  • Repair leaking sprinkler systems within 10 days.
